All farms have a history. This one begins in 2007, with a couple, Luis and Lurdes returning to their roots, through a sustainable project that respects nature, man, art and traditions. The trips they made with some regularity to Lurdes’s mother’s village – Vinhó, municipality of Gouveia, at the foot of the Serra da Estrela – they made their decision to acquire a property there. In the region there are stunning sceneries, authentic live portraits dominated by valleys of fertile lands.

The dream emerged with the acquisition of Madre de Água Farm with 16 hectares, where there existed some buildings in granite stone, a 40 year old vineyard plot, many olive trees, oak trees, chestnut trees, pine trees, century-old cherry trees, rock formations from the Glacier era and many water wells. This is the Farm that gives the name to the project Madre de Água, in which the logo represents an image of water crystals.

The Winery

The passion for wine was another dream come true. The conditions of excellence, combined with the existing vineyards and the desire to plant more vineyards to produce quality wines, was the natural step to take.

The vineyards, that have repeatedly won awards along with Dão’s best, are worked on by a knowledgeable and passionate team. In 2011, a strategy was developed to collect data of the terroir and plant to take advantage of the best grape. From this data, the first corps were released in 2015, having now a clear investment in monovarietal wines. The harvests are always done manually so that the production per hectare is controlled to obtain the best grapes.

The new wine cellar has been constructed on the farm with the renovation of an existing century-old  cellar, pictured here, equipped with the most modern technologies and accommodations, where various activities of wine tourism will be held.
