Casca Wines is a company founded by winemaker Hélder Cunha in 2008, born out of the need he felt to create Portuguese wines that express the terroir of each of Portugal's demarcated regions.

It was in the micro-region of Colares, the westernmost point of continental Europe, that Hélder Cunha, against all the ocean winds, challenged himself to produce truly unique wines.

The birthplace of the winemaker - Cascais - inspired the creation of the name and the brands that express the company's portfolio of wines. Today, with more than 10 years of history, more than 35 markets around the world, with a series of national and international awards and with wines produced in almost all regions of Portugal, Casca Wines is the national leader in selling wines with Organic and Vegane certification continues to produce unique wines.

Hélder Cunha is an experienced winemaker and IWC Judge. He started his career in Napa Valley in 2000 where he produced great Pinot Noir at Ken Rasmussen Winery. He finished his studies at the Geisenhein Research Center and started working in the Douro Valley on Upper Douro Wines. He later joined Vinhos Borges where he won the Grand dʼOr Concour Mondial de Bruxelles medal.

Casca Wines is the first Portuguese wine company to produce wines in ten different DOCʼs. In 2013, riding a motorcycle with famous actor José Fidalgo, he produced the TV series "Rotas dos Vinhos" where they showed Portugal's unique tradition as a wine producing country.

Tasting Notes

The Ramisco grape variety is characteristic of the Colares area. Its cultivation is very peculiar and laborious, as this variety is planted on “sandy ground” and without rootstocks. The vineyards are located very close to the sea and in an area close to large cities, which is why urban pressure, the lack of labor and the low profitability of cultivation almost extinguished this variety. The Ramisco variety matures late. Its bunches are medium and compact with small, rounded berries. The wines have a relatively low alcohol content, high acidity and intense tannins. After aging in the bottle, these wines become softer and more aromatic.

NOSE: Vegetable, earthy notes and withered roses.

PALATE: Elegant and austere with notes of earth and minerals. All elements are in balance in a long and persistent end.

Alcohol: 11.5% | pH: 3.43 | Total acidity: 5.82 g/L
